languages, keyboard presses and the user’s preferences. It comes with its own software package compatible with Windows XP, Windows Vista and Mac OS X. Each action and layout is easily configured and the possibilities are endless.

The final product has run for pre-order and is currently sold out. The first buyers will receive their Optimus Maximus in the end of February when the latest firmware updates are configured to all functionality and operating systems. It will connect via a single USB 2.0 cable, occupy 2 additional USB 2.0 ports for secondary input devices, a SD card slot for storing layouts and its own power supply. There is also an ambient light sensor to dim the brightness of the displays, similar to an Apple MacBook Pro’s keyboard.

Art. Lebedev will be sporting a stand at this year’s CES (Consumer Electronics Show) in Las Vegas. From 7-10 January you can view the Optimus Maximus at booth #72204 at Sands Hall.

Optimus Tactus

On 28 December 2007 Art. Lebedev announced another prototype. The latest child in the Optimus family is the Optimus Tactus.

The Tactus is a keyboard without any tactile feedback. It is created using one TFT display and touch screen. Because there are no restrictions, the layout can be configured to any shape, size or kind. You could have a layout for typing and for editing small video clips. Again, the possibilities are endless.
Art. Lebedev expects to produce this keyboard sometime in 2008. More details on this latest prototype are not yet available.
